The Patriot Boxing Team, formerly the Russian Boxing Team until the franchise was renamed for Season VII, has impressed since its very first WSB campaign, reaching the Season II Final where they were edged out by the stylish Italia Thunder. The team was then unable to progress beyond the Group Stage in a disappointing Season III, before bouncing back in Season IV with six wins out of ten – including victory over the mighty Cuba Domadores – to reach the Quarter-Finals. There they faced a Cuban team determined to avenge the loss and the Russians couldn’t find an answer to the heat in Havana as the Domadores went on on to win the title. Beaten again by the eventual champions – this time Astana Arlans Kazakhstan – in the Season V quarters, the team made light work of their group in Season VI only to lose at the first Play-Off stage for the third season in a row, with a 6-4 defeat to newcomers Uzbek Tigers.
The Patriot Boxing Team have established themselves as one of the toughest sides to face in World Series of Boxing, home or away, thanks in part to the style of boxing traditionally adopted by its athletes. The team’s cerebral, compact and closed approach relies heavily on the jab and good footwork and makes them incredibly hard to break down and score points against.
