19-year-old Andy Cruz Gomez is yet another world class Cuban Bantamweight (56 kg), and the Domadore has enjoyed a dream WSB debut season after earning five consecutive wins to finish fourth in the rankings.
Each Gomez victory has arrived via unanimous decision, and he has rarely looked flustered, let alone troubled by the threats of his opponents. A debut triumph over Mexico’s Brian Gonzalez was particularly impressing especially as he was replacing the great Robeisy Ramirez in the Cuban team, while his performance against British Lionheart Sean McGoldrick was very entertaining.
Gomez’s arrival into WSB was helped by strong performances in domestic tournaments. Gold medals in the Teofilo Stevenson Cup and Roberto Balado Cup proved his worth as a strong Bantamweight, and he finished 2014 with second place in the Cuban National Championships.
