Can USA Knockouts return to form away to Azerbaijan Baku Fires

World Series of Boxing (WSB) Season IV runners-up Azerbaijan Baku Fires host USA Knockouts in a key Group B clash.

The Azeri team have won their last three home fixtures in the competition, while the out of form USA Knockouts have lost four of their last five matches.

As well as team glory, there are also huge ramifications for the individual boxers competing who have hopes of qualifying for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games through WSB.

Guba Olympic Complex, Guba is the venue for this Group B clash, where on Saturday 11th April fans across the world can watch the action free, live and on demand from 19:00 (GMT +5) at

America’s 3-2 Brent Venegas III is ranked third at Flyweight (52 kg) two points behind second placed Jeyvier Cintrón Ocasio who also competes this weekend.

Venegas III is level on points with two other boxers in the Flyweight standings so he will want to win convincingly against Murad Rabadanov to keep his Olympic chances alive and move away from the chasing pack.

The American has won all three of his home matches this season, but has lost his two away fixtures.

WSB veteran Albert Selimov is one of the most successful boxers in the history of the competition, and the Azeri athlete leads the Lightweight (60 kg) rankings with just two matches to go for the weight class.

5-0 this season with all of his victories coming by unanimous decision, Selimov is three points ahead of nearest rival Lazaro Alvarez, and could qualify for Rio 2016 this weekend if other results go his way.

He faces a tough opponent in Guba when 3-0 Carlos Balderas takes to the ring in opposition.

This will be the first away match of the campaign for the American who is undefeated at home.

Fourth ranked Azeri Welterweight (69 kg) Parviz Baghirov lost to Kazakhstan’s Kanagat Maralov two weeks ago which all but ended his Olympic chances through WSB, and this week he fights sixth ranked American Brian Ceballo who has lost three of his last four matches.

A Light heavyweight (81 kg) tussle follows between seventh ranked 2-2 home star Soltan Migitinov and USA’s Steve Nelson.

Both Haji Murtuzaliyev and Cam F. Awesome lost a fortnight ago via TKO, so their Super heavyweight (91+ kg) shootout to close the evening could be an explosive affair.
