Precise Puerto Rico Hurricanes enjoy derby success over USA Knockouts

Puerto Rico Hurricanes enjoyed a historic 3-2 World Series of Boxing (WSB) victory over neighbours USA Knockouts in San Juan.

The North American derby success for the Hurricanes reignites their season in Group B, while the excellent form of the Knockouts has been tempered slightly after this result.

Puerto Rican Light flyweight (49 kg) Anthony Chacon Rivera enjoyed his first victory of the campaign in fight number one after USA’s 1-3 Nico Hernandez was forced out of the contest through injury midway through round four.

American Bantamweight (56 kg) Francisco Martinez then lived up to his number one ranking as he went 4-0 for the season with a crushing victory over Garibaldy Gomez.

The Hurricanes retook the lead at Light welterweight (64 kg) when 2-2 Jan Rivera surprisingly subjected America’s Tyrek Irby to his first WSB defeat.

2-2 Knockout Anthony Campbell won his second successive match at Middleweight (75 kg) with a very wide points win against Jean Alicea to even up the scoring going into the final bout.

Heavyweight (91 kg) Hurricane Gabriel Richards enjoyed his first ever WSB win, and ensured the derby victory for his Franchise by defeating USA’s Joshua Temple by a single point on all three scorecards.

Puerto Rico Hurricanes travel away to Rafako Hussars Poland next week, while USA Knockouts host Argentina Condors.
