The Mexican team is finalising its preparation for the AIBA World Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, which will take place between the 11th to the 27th of October.
AIBA has announced that there will be a new record number of participants with a total of 576 boxers (excluding any team reserves) having been registered from 116 countries around the world.
The Mexican team will include numerous members of the Mexico Guerreros World Series of Boxing (WSB) team who will enjoy the event tremendously and make use of it to sharpen themselves ahead of the forthcoming season.
Welterweight (69kg) Marvin Cabrera, who was the number one ranked WSB boxer in that weight group last season as well as being a three time Mexican national champion, will lead the team out. Juan Pablo Romero will join him at Light Welterweight (64kg), as will WSB 2012 individual champion, Elías Emigdio 52kg.
Last season’s number three ranked WSB Light Flyweight (49kg) Joselito Velázquez, Pan American Champion (2011) Lightweight (60kg) Lindolfo Delgado and respected Bantamweight (56kg) Brian González will all grace the canvas for the national as well. Finally they will be joined by Middleweight (75kg) Juan Antonio Mercado.
The ever-proud Guerreros boxers are very excited at the opportunity to represent their country again and are looking forward to the challenge it represents on the eve of the new WSB season, which starts in November.
