As the nephew of three-time Olympic Games Champion Felix Savon, Erislandy Savon has continued the legendary reputation of his family by becoming one of the most successful boxers in WSB history.
His boxing career rose to prominence in 2008 when he won the AIBA Youth World Championships, and the Cuban Heavyweight (91 kg) has since competed in three AIBA World Championships and the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Despite success in many AOB competitions, WSB has been the most successful format for Savon’s many talents, and he was named the 2014 Boxer of the Season after his seven successive wins helped Cuba achieve glory in their debut campaign.
Savon has continued his excellent form in Season V with eight magnificent victories, including five stoppage wins. The 24-year-old finished second in the Heavyweight rankings at the close of the Regular Season behind Vasiliy Levit, who he is expected to face in the Season V Finals this weekend.
Tall, with fast hands and an excellent engine for a man his size, Savon sets out to dominate from the very beginning of his fights. The Cuban star has an exceptional ability to evade punches, while using unconventional angles to set up his own shots.
With 15 successive victories across two seasons, the undefeated sensation is an imposing figure in the ring, while remaining a role model outside of the squared circle.
