Following the side’s superb Week One win in Buenos Aires, Colombia Heroicos will be able to give their fans a first slice of WSB action on Friday night as they entertain Venezuela Caciques in Cartagena in their second match of Season VII. The Colombian line-up houses a healthy balance of experience and emerging talent, while the visitors field a side with great strength in depth as they look to secure their first points of the new campaign after a chastening Week One defeat in Cuba.
The hosts’ Rio 2016 Quarter-Finalist Ceiber Avila will be first in the ring as he tackles another attacking boxer, Venezuelan Franklin Gonzalez, at Flyweight (52kg). The pair are both currently 1-1 in WSB having made their debuts last season when Avila boxed with Puerto Rico Hurricanes, and will be hoping to get their respective teams off to the all-important winning start.
Colombian Lightweight (60kg) John Gutierrez then gets his first taste of the five-round format in the evening’s second bout against 20-year-old Venezuelan Christiann Palacio, who defeated Poland’s Mateusz Polski in Season VI, before another of the Heroicos’ new breed, Welterweight (69kg) Alexander Rangel, takes on Jesus Correa who, at 19 years-old is seeking his first taste of WSB victory.
At Light Heavyweight (81kg), Colombia’s 2015 Pan-American Games bronze medallist Juan Carlos Carrillo will be looking to register his second WSB victory in what could be the bout of the evening against Nalek Korbaj who, with two seasons and two wins to his name, could provide the Caciques with a morale-boosting victory going in to the final bout. That contest will see Colombia’s Cristian Salcedo face off against Venezuelan veteran and Rio 2016 competitor Edgar Muñoz, a Super Heavyweight (+91kg) looking to mark his tenth WSB appearance with a win that would certainly get his team’s season up and running.
