China Dragons chase precious second win of Season VII against Patriot Boxing Team in Sanya

After a remarkable turnaround in their Season VII opener against Uzbek Tigers in Week One, China Dragons will meet Patriot Boxing Team on Saturday with a wonderful opportunity to make it two wins from two. The Patriots hosted Astana Arlans Kazakhstan in their first match of the campaign, and will be hoping to erase a painful 3-2 defeat in Moscow with an assured away performance.

Flyweights (52kg) Chang Yong and Ovik Ogannisian will get the evening’s boxing action up and running, Yong returning for the Dragons having featured in Season V and up against an equally seasoned Russian WSB athlete hoping to build on his one win to date, a unanimous points victory over Venezuela Caciques Franklin Gonzalez last year.

The hosts’ Rio 2016 Lightweight (60kg) Shan Jun currently boasts a 3-2 record from his two seasons in the competition, and the 22-year-old meets Russian newcomer Shahriyor Akhmedov in the second bout of the night. Hu Richabilige then faces Artem Zaytsev at Welterweight (69kg), before China’s veteran Light Heavyweight (81kg) Shi Guojun, still chasing his first WSB win, meets Danil Shved, the 33-year-old seeking the fifth victory of a WSB career reaching right back to Season I.

The final bout of the evening will see the return of Dragons’ Super Heavyweight (+91kg) Wang Leilei as he faces Russia’s Maxim Babanin. Like Shved, Babanin is a long-time fixture of Russia’s WSB set-up, with eight wins and three defeats since his first appearance in Season II.
