The exciting AIBA Asian-Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event staged great boxing action in Qian’an, China, where the experienced boxers from the World Series of Boxing claimed fourteen medals, which all count as Olympic qualification quotas.
The Asian continent is home to three WSB franchises. Among them, both Uzbek Tigers and Astana Arlans Kazakhstan have sealed their play-offs place in Season VI Group D meeting Russia Boxing Team and Venezuela Caciques respectively, while China Dragons hold the honourable record of two home victories.
The AIBA Asian-Oceania Olympic Qualification Event granted 30 men and 6 women boxer Rio 2016 Olympic Games qualification quotas out of which WSB Boxers achieved fourteen.
Uzbek Tigers squad holds the most impressive record of winning five gold and one silver medals. Top talent light flyweight (49kg), Hasanboy Dusmatov, won a gold medal over his Filipino rival Rogen Ladon in their rematch from 2015 ASBC finals. Flyweight (52kg) fellow countryman, Shakhobidin Zoirov defeated China Dragons Jianguan Hu and was awarded gold medal by split decision. Another powerful Uzbek Tiger, Elshod Rasulov earned gold medal against the Kazakh, Adilbek Niyazimbetov, in the Light Heavyweight (81kg) final. Rustam Tulaganov added-up another gold medal to the impressive WSB Uzbek Tigers medals record with a victory over Fengkai Yu,China Dragons Heavyweight (91kg).
Astana Arlans Kazakhstan contesters picked up two gold and two bronze medals. Middleweight Zhanibek Alimkhanuly defeated China Dragons Minggang Zhao by TKO. While Season V Team Champion Ivan Dychko secured a gold medal over Uzbek Tigers contender Bakhodir Jalolov in the Super Heavyweight class (+91 kg) final and proved he is one of the main favourite for the Olympic title in Rio de Janeiro.
Astana Arlans Kazakhstan members, Kairat Yeraliyev and Olzhas Sattibayev both won the bronze medal in the box-offs, bringing home their Olympic tickets. Sattibayev defeated former Ukraine Otamans athlete Azat Usenaliev, from Kirgyzstan in Flyweight class (52 kg)
China Dragons trio Jianguan Hu, Minggang Zhao and Fengkai Yu, members all claimed silver medal in the AIBA Asian-Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event on home soil which secured them a quota to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. While HU Qianxun picked-up bronze medal and another ticket to Rio.
