Titleholder Astana Arlans Kazakhstan expects to secure a place in the play-offs on Saturday against the Puerto Rico Hurricanes

Astana Arlans Kazakhstan is looking to cement their WSB legacy in their fifth match in Season VI when they host their Group D rivals the Puerto Rico Hurricanes. The Kazakhstan franchise could secure their place in the play-offs if they beat the Central America team in the city of Petropavlovsk which is located in the Northern region of the country.

The boxers to watch:

Mardan Berikbayev will compete at the Light Flyweight class (49 kg) in the Petropavlovsk event. The 25-year-old Kazakh boxer will have a realistic chance to beat the Central American boxer, 19-year-old John Ortiz who won the Juan Venegas Tournament last December.

Kazakhstan National Championships silver medallist Nursultan Kochshegulov, an experienced Bantamweight class (56 kg) will be the favourite against 19-year-old Edgardo Rolon who lost both of his first Season VI contests.

Kazakhstan’s new teenage talent Abilkhan Amankul was named ASBC Youth Athlete of the Year in 2015 following his unbeaten series in four strong international tournaments and for the very first time the 19-year-old Middleweight class (75 kg) boxer will represent Astana Arlans Kazakhstan. Amankul knocked out a tough opponent in the Bocskai Memorial Tournament last month and he is very motivated before his WSB debut against Puerto Rico Hurricanes’ Dominican boxer Raul Sanchez who is member of the national team since 2010.

Coach Nurlan Akurpekov’s new choice at the Heavyweight class (91 kg) is the Liventsev Memorial Tournament winner Yerkin Mukhametzhan in Astana Arlans Kazakhstan who won his opening WSB match against an experienced fighter from Azerbaijan Baku Fires’ Haji Murtazaliyev. The 21-year-old orthodox local boxer is planning to win his second WSB contest in Season VI against Puerto Rico Hurricanes’ Ivan Rosado.
