Azerbaijan Baku Fires glorious in Guba with 4-1 win over Puerto Rico Hurricanes

After a troubling start to Season V of the World Series of Boxing (WSB), Azerbaijan Baku Fires have managed to regain momentum in Group B by defeating Puerto Rico Hurricanes 4-1 in Guba.

Despite this result, the Azeri Franchise still have a lot of work to do if they want to reach the final of WSB as they achieved last season, while Puerto Rico will be disappointed at such a comprehensive defeat after their fine start to the campaign.

Puerto Rico’s top ranked and undefeated Jeyvier Cintrón Ocasio continued his excellent run at Flyweight (52 kg) with a split decision victory over 1-2 Elvin Mamishzada.

Azerbaijan claimed their first win of the night at Lightweight (60 kg) as Albert Selimov went 3-0 with a comprehensive victory against Puerto Rican debutant Angel Lopez.

Welterweight (69 kg) Parviz Baghirov then enjoyed his second win in a row with another points victory over 1-2 Nicklaus Flaz.

The overall victory was assured for the Baku Fires at Light heavyweight (81 kg) when Soltan Migitinov comfortably dispatched of 0-3 Joseph Laboy.

In the last fight of the evening at Super heavyweight (91+ kg), Azeri athlete Arslanbek Makhmudov needed just 47 seconds to stop Hurricane Cosme Henrique dos Santos Nascimento.

Azerbaijan Baku Fires travel away to Argentina Condors next week, while Puerto Rico Hurricanes host neighbours USA Knockouts.
