Morocco Atlas Lions enjoy close derby win over Algeria Desert Hawks

The very first African derby in the history of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) was an entertaining and intense battle, ultimately won by Morocco Atlas Lions 3-2 over Algeria Desert Hawks.

This result in Casablanca means that the Atlas Lions enjoy their third win of Season V, while the Desert Hawks are still without a victory in five matches.

Flyweight (52 kg) Achraf Kharroubi opened the night with success for Morocco and earned his second in a row against Algerian debutant Mohamed Lamine Khentache on points.

The scoring was even after match two, when Moroccan Lightweight (60 kg) Hamza Rabii lost his first WSB match to Algeria’s Reda Benbaziz via split decision.

Atlas Lion Mohammed Rabii has been one of the best Welterweights (69 kg) in the competition so far, and took his record to 3-0 with a crushing victory over Sofiane Tabi.

Algeria evened up the evening yet again at Light heavyweight (81 kg) when Nabil Kassel defeated Mohamed Assaguir on points.

With everything to play for heading into the last Super heavyweight (91+ kg) bout of the night, Abouhamada Abdeljalil won every single round against Algeria’s Hamza Beguerni to secure the victory for his Franchise.

After an excellent African derby, Morocco Atlas Lions are away to Russian Boxing Team next week, while Algeria Desert Hawks are at home to China Dragons.
