Morocco Atlas Lions host Algeria Desert Hawks in the first WSB African derby

Perfectly showcasing the international flavour of the World Series of Boxing (WSB), this week the very first African derby takes place in the competition, as Morocco Atlas Lions host Algeria Desert Hawks.

The Moroccan Franchise have had a respectable start to WSB, with two wins so far, while their Algerian rivals have yet to taste victory in four matches, and sit bottom of Group A.

Hyatt Regency, Casablanca, is the venue for this Group B clash, where on Friday 20th February fans across the world can watch the action free, live and on demand from 22:00 GMT at

Fighting first are the dynamic Flyweights (52 kg) and home star Achraf Kharroubi looks for his second win a row against Algerian debutant Mohamed Lamine Khentache.

Moroccan Lightweight (60 kg) Hamza Rabii then makes his first appearance of the season against 1-1 Algerian fighter Reda Benbaziz, who outclassed 2009 AIBA World Championships gold medalist Detelin Dalakliev in his last match.

The action continues at Welterweight (69 kg), where 2-0 Mohammed Rabii, currently ranked at number three in WSB in his weight class looks to delight the home fans by beating the tough Sofiane Tabi.

Light heavyweight (81 kg) Moroccan Mohamed Assaguir lost his opening match of the campaign, and is looking for his first victory against Algeria’s Nabil Kassel who lost his last fight via walkover.

In the last match of the evening, Atlas Lion Super heavyweight (91+kg) Abouhamada Abdeljalil battles 0-1 Hamza Beguerni, who carries incredible amounts of power.
