Season V of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) is only five weeks old, but is already proving itself to be the most evenly-matched edition of the world class boxing tournament.
The Azeri Franchise have now lost three of their five matches this campaign, and will need to improve, while the American’s are full of confidence after yet another victory.
An evening of success for the Knockouts began at Light flyweight (49 kg) where the home audience in Miami were treated to a superb performance from Nico Hernandez who widely outpointed Azerbaijan’s Magomed Ibiyev.
American Bantamweight (56 kg) Francisco Martinez then won his third WSB match in a row with a close win over Tural Ahmadov.
One of the biggest surprises of the season then occurred at Light welterweight (64 kg) as Tyrek Irby stunned Azerbaijan’s Gaybatulla Gadzhialiyev to secure the overall victory for the Knockouts.
Middleweight (75 kg) Anthony Campbell followed up that shock with a split decision win against Mikalai Vesialou to make it 4-0 on the night.
The Baku Fires claimed a solitary win at Heavyweight (91 kg) when Abdulkadir Abdullayev subjected Josh Temple to his first defeat of the campaign on points.
USA Knockouts are at home again next week to Rafako Hussars Poland, while Azerbaijan Baku Fires host Puerto Rico Hurricanes.
