The Cuba Domadores landed on Monday 19th at the Benito Juárez International Airport of Mexico City, 7PM local time. The ten boxers, coaches, as well as Rolando Acebal, Cuba national team Technical Director, arrived in Mexico ten days prior to the World Series of Boxing (WSB) Exhibition Match that will take place on the 29th and 30th August.
The team will now enter its final phase of training, in order to adapt to the altitude of Mexico City (2’400m). Bantamweight (56kg) 2012 Olympic Bronze Medallist Lazaro Alvarez and Light Welterweight (64kg) 2012 Olympic Bronze Medallist Yasniel Toledo will lead the Cuban team under the direction of Rolando Acebal. The squad also includes Light Heavyweight (81kg) 2008 Beijing Silver Medallist Julio Cesar La Cruz, Middleweight (75kg) 2008 Beijing Silver Medallist Carlos Banteur and Super Heavyweight (91+kg) 2009 World Championships Bronze Medallist Jose Angel Larduet.
Yosbany Veitía will compete at Light Flyweight (49kg), Gerardo Cervantes at Flyweight (52kg), Iván Oñate at Lightweight (60kg), Luis Oliva Gener at Welterweight (69kg) and Erislandy Savon at Heavyweight (91kg).
To mark the arrival of the Cuban team in the capital of Mexico, a press conference and team’s presentation will be held on Wednesday August 21 at 1PM local time, at the National Center of Sports and Development (CNAR).
