After the announcement that the reigning WSB champions Dolce & Gabbana Italia Thunder had recruited four big names over the close season, many expect the glamorous Italian Franchise to defend their title come the end of the season. Their performances during the group stages last campaign were impressive but it was how they hit top gear in the knock-out phase that really set them apart from their rivals. They delivered style and panache each and every time they took to the ring and all is in place this season for another assault on the much coveted WSB Team Trophy.
With several tough teams to contend with in Group B, it will be a real battle to make into the last eight for the titleholders but full of confidence and with some classy additions to their roster they are still favourites to triumph. With Clemento Russo leading the pack and with a host of other Italian stars, including Domenico Valentino and Vincenzo Picardi as well Olympic bronze medallist Vincenzo Mangiacapre, they will be hard to beat.
The defence of their title begins at home at the cauldron of noise that is the Mediolanum Forum against the German Eagles on Saturday 17 November. The Dolce & Gabbana Italia Thunder’s first opponents have been making all the right noises but with home advantage and their boisterous fans behind them, it is hard to look beyond a home victory.
